AEROSMITH Frontman Makes Surprise Appearance At RANDY CASTILLO Tribute Gig

May 1, 2002

AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler made a surprise appearance at a sold-out tribute to the late MOTLEY CRUE/OZZY OSBOURNE drummer Randy Castillo, which was held at the Key Club in Hollywood, California on Monday, April 29th. Tyler reportedly appeared for a rendition of the AEROSMITH classic "Mama Kin" at the conclusion of a set by a band that was jokingly referred to by organizers as BUCKS N' ROSES, because it featured former GUNS N' ROSES members Slash (guitar),Duff McKagan (bass),and Matt Sorum (drums),along with BUCKCHERRY singer Josh Todd and guitarist Keith Nelson. According to a report posted at KNAC.com, [the band] spun the crowd into a frenzy, opening with GNR's 'It's So Easy' then the SEX PISTOLS'God Save The Queen', as well as ROSE TATTOO/GNR's 'Nice Boys' and BUCKCHERRY's 'Lit Up'. The band then tore into GNR's 'Paradise City', in which CYPRESS HILL's Sen Dog jumped up on stage to provide additional vocals. And then it came AEROSMITH's Steven Tyler pounced onstage and blew out the place with an amazing rendition of the AEROSMITH classic, 'Mama Kin'. The floors were thumping and the place went wild! Tyler finished his appearance by holding his arms up and looking to the sky, and woefully screamed, 'Raaaaannndyyyyyyyyyyy!'

According to the organizers, some of the funds raised at the tribute event will be donated to the NARAS MusiCares program, while the remainder will go to establish a scholarship fund in Castillo's hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
