AEROSMITH Guitarist Says STEVEN TYLER's 'Shoulder Blade Was Broken In Two Places'
August 12, 2009AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry was interviewed by Ken Calvert of Detroit, Michigan's classic rock radio station 94.7 WCSX this past Monday, August 10. Regarding Steven Tyler's injuries which the singer sustained in a fall last week, Perry said, "The original diagnosis that we heard was that his shoulder blade was broken in two places, and when I saw him walk by, he was bleeding pretty bad. But, apparently, it didn't anything internally that they could find — I mean, there was no concussion. He hit his head pretty bad and his back, but... nothing internal. It was basically like he'd been in a bad bar fight [where] somebody had a baseball bat."
Video footage of Perry's appearance on 94.7 WCSX can be viewed below.
AEROSMITH has canceled the entire Canadian leg of its current North American tour, which was scheduled to begin this past weekend and extend through August 15. According to LiveDaily.com, five Canadian dates have been scrapped, while the trek is tentatively slated to resume next Monday (August 17) in Seattle. Tyler fell off the stage last Wednesday (August 5) in Sturgis, South Dakota and was taken to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with head and neck injuries as well as a broken shoulder.
Tyler's daughter Mia issued a press release to TMZ refuting rumors that her father had died from his injuries, adding, "He is now at home (in Boston) resting and will be back on his feet just as soon as he can to rock the world once more."
However, Perry, who has elected to ride a tour bus home and visit radio stations during the enforced hiatus, told the Associated Press that the group was going to meet and decide whether to continue the mishap-filled trek.
Tyler injured his leg early in the outing, forcing the band to sit out seven shows, while guitarist Brad Whitford and bassist Tom Hamilton have both missed portions of the jaunt due to injuries and/or surgery.
Perry said that the possibility of the tour being canceled was "breaking his heart," and said he had not yet spoken to Tyler about what caused him to fall, explaining, "I've seen it a thousand times, him dancing or just twirling around, doing a somersault, he's really agile, so I don't know."
Perry also made a surprise appearance at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival on Sunday night (August 9),joining JANE'S ADDICTION for its encore, "Jane Says".
