BACKSTAGE AUCTIONS Announces ROCK ART AUCTION

June 27, 2005

Backstage Auctions has partnered with rock artist Stanley Mouse and two of the top poster authorities, Mark Powers and Kevin Phillips, to host "The Rock Art Poster Auction". Never before has a collection been offered of such amazing magnitude, quality, size and value. Among the more than 3,000 original concert posters, which date back from the 1960s through current day, are the complete numbered and first printing series of the "Family Dog" and "Bill Graham" posters, handbills and card series — representing the San Francisco scene of the mid 1960s and beyond — where the concept of rock art was born.

"Sorting through these posters has been like a journey through history of the classic rock era from the '60s, '70s and beyond," explains Jacques van Gool, co-founder Backstage Auctions. "Before the birth of rock art, most concert posters were merely show announcements until artists like Stanley Mouse came along and turned them into memorable works of art that went on to influence the designs of album covers and tour programs and merchandise in general."

The auction further offers original prints from historic venues such as the Fillmore West, Avalon, Grande Ballroom and Armadillo Headquarters, as well as individual lots of rock's greatest artists from JIMI HENDRIX, THE ROLLING STONES and JANIS JOPLIN, to THE WHO, THE DOORS, CREAM, THE GRATEFUL DEAD, JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, LED ZEPPELIN and much more.

"This is a different type of auction for us," explains Kelli van Gool, co-founder Backstage Auctions. "It's the first time that one of our auctions is built around a theme rather than a specific artist. It is also one of the biggest and most complete rock poster collection ever offered in the marketplace at one time."

Backstage Auctions is planning to hold the auction in mid-to-late August, and will announce the exact dates within the next couple of weeks. For more information and to register for this auction, please visit www.backstageauctions.com.
