Bassist HANK III: 'I Don't Know What's Up With SUPERJOINT RITUAL Right Now'
October 26, 2005Ellen Gager of Midwest Excess recently conducted an interview with SUPERJOINT RITUAL bassist Hank Williams III. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:
Midwest Excess: So are you a Bush supporter?
Hank Williams III: "They didn't want my vote from the time I was doing federal probation for five years, so I've never been into politics and I don't believe in the government. If the government was a real government, pot would be legal, the speed limit would be faster and they wouldn't be fuckin' gettin' upset over a cuss word or a pair of tits or all this stupid shit. America needs to take a fuckin' nice hard look at themselves and see how much energy they waste on drama mutherfuckin' bullshit and get real. I mean, we're the land of the free, but we're also the land of the fuckin' most double standards out there. Compared to Europe and some other places, it's just god-awful. It doesn't matter because it's already a higher power and it's already planned out in their game. 'We the People' does not exist anymore in my eyes."
Midwest Excess: Do you enjoy playing with HANK III , ASSJACK or SUPERJOINT RITUAL the most?
Hank Williams III: "It's hard to say. Each one of them's got their own uniqueness. I enjoy the country side when my voice is rockin'. When I can get the high nasal voice. Sometimes that's completely gone and sometimes it feels like the most god-awful feeling in the world, tryin' to get through the country set whenever I don't have a voice, because it just goes back to me bein' hard on myself. I wanna give the best show that I can to make me happy. And whenever I can't give a good show, it just pisses me off to no extent. Everything's different. ASSJACK has their moments, SUPERJOINT has their goods and bads, and then Anselmo [Phil, SUPERJOINT RITUAL/ex-PANTERA frontman] has a fan base. It's some of the rowdiest kids in the world. And I'm thankful with all of them, really, but each one's unique, I don't know really which one is a favorite. With each show, one can be boring, or one can be just off the hook, every time it's different. You never know. But I can't really pick out a favorite. I go through a lot of different moods up there."
Midwest Excess: That's great that you have equal dedication for all of them.
Hank Williams III: "Most of the time. I don't know what's up with SUPERJOINT right now, everything's kinda fucked up. But we'll see, if it's gonna make it back, or what project Anselmo's gonna go with. And the rest of it, we're just out here doin' what we do and fightin' a label that's just tryin' to get releases. Tryin' to keep it goin' as much as we can."
