BLACK STONE CHERRY To Enter Studio This Winter
November 21, 2019Guitarist Ben Wells of Kentucky rockers BLACK STONE CHERRY has confirmed to MisplacedStraws.com that the band is preparing to begin work on the follow-up to last year's "Family Tree" LP. "We've gotta do a new album, so we'll be in the studio wintertime and then probably get back on the road in spring," he said. "We've hit this album cycle really hard. We've done Europe four times on it, we've been all over the U. S. and everywhere and got to go to Japan and Hawaii for the first time. It's been great, but it's time to slow it down for a minute and crank out another album."
Asked if the members of BLACK STONE CHERRY write on the road or wait until they get home to get creative, Wells said: "It's a combo of both. We do write on the road. We were writing a couple of nights ago up here in the front lounge of the bus. But you never wanna force it; that's the worst. So if we hit a creative stride or get inspired, then yeah, we write on the road. And then we also can write on the spot as well."
According to Wells, all four members of BLACK STONE CHERRY are involved in the songwriting process. "It's a free-for-all," he said. "We do everything equally, so if somebody's got a melody or a riff or an idea, we just take it. Nobody really says, 'Well, this is my job to do this and this.' We're all in it together."
Earlier this month, BLACK STONE CHERRY canceled its previously announced Australian tour with HALESTORM due to a "family emergency." The trek was scheduled to kick off on December 6 in Sydney and conclude on December 10 in Melbourne.
BLACK STONE CHERRY's second tribute to its blues heroes, "Black To Blues Volume 2", was released on November 1 via Mascot Records/Mascot Label Group.
The first installment of the series, "Black To Blues", was released in October 2017 and crashed straight into No. 1 in the Billboard Blues chart and reached the top 30 U.K. album chart with a wave of praise from both the press and fans.
