December 20, 2001

BLIND GUARDIAN's recently-issued "And Then There Was Silence" CD single, the first single to be issued through Century Media Records in more than a decade of operation in North America, debuted on the US Soundscan singles sales chart at #171, with top 40 debuts in Cleveland, Seattle and Denver all without the benefit of commercial radio airplay. In Greece, the single has climbed from #48 in the first week to #15 in the second and now #12, while it went from #4 to #3 in Spain, and has 2 entries in the Canadian charts: #11 for the domestic release, and #100 for the US-imported version. The fourteen-minute "And Then There Was Silence" was produced by Charlie Bauerfeind at Twilight Hall Studios in Grefrath-Oedt, Germany, and it reportedly took four months to record, using 128 tracks, including fifty for the vocals and thirty for the guitars. The group has now completed their upcoming full-length CD, entitled A Night At The Opera, which will be officially released on March 19th.
