BUSH Singer's Online Posting Revives HELMET Reunion Rumors
October 9, 2003Despite Page Hamilton's denials that a HELMET reunion is in the works in conjunction with the upcoming retrospective of the group's three studio albums for Interscope, a new online posting by BUSH frontman Gavin Rossdale — whose forthcoming solo debut is being produced by Hamilton — suggests that Page is currently working on a new HELMET CD for an anticipated 2004 release.
Rossdale writes on BUSH's official web site, "The plan is [for me] to continue recording with Page [Hamilton] and finish the [solo] record. I guess he is also doing a HELMET record so it is a case of figuring the time but I am, of course, deeply excited by the prospect of showing you what I have been writing/working on. I wonder why it has to take so long but there is a natural speed to things and we are all victims of that. . . I have about five or six songs still to write, I think, and that is the thrust of my attention now."
A management spokesperson for Hamilton had previously told Billboard.com that he was unsure how the rumor of a HELMET reunion began, but confirmed that Hamilton is working on a new project with late-period HELMET guitarist Chris Traynor, among others (both musicians are also featured on tracks intended for Rossdale's solo debut). Hamilton, who is currently unsigned, is no longer pursuing his band GANDHI, which featured former WHITE ZOMBIE drummer John Tempesta and ROB ZOMBIE bassist Rob Nicholson.
HELMET's career retrospective, "Helmet Unsung: The Very Best of Helmet (1991-1997)", is due on January 27 through Universal Records.
