Canadian Heavy Metal Documentary Makers Discuss Inspiration Behind Film
September 9, 2005Sam Dunn and Scott McFayden, the filmmakers behind the brand-new documentary offering a guided tour through heavy metal's storied but largely ignored history, "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", recently spoke to Canada's Metro News about their movie, which will make its world premiere in Midnight Madness at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 14 at the Ryerson Theatre.
Dunn, an anthropologist who has followed his rock gods since his pre-teens, explained, "From my perspective as a metal fan and as an anthropologist, I felt there had never been a really interesting, in-depth look at metal before."
"Metal deals with things like death, religion and evil," Dunn added. "I think they exist, they're in our world and I think metal has been the venue to dig into those subjects which we kind of like to push away and ignore."
