CANDLEMASS, ENTOMBED And EUROPE Named Greatest Swedish Hard Rock/Metal Bands Of All Time
December 20, 2012Sweden Rock Magazine, Scandinavia's biggest hard rock magazine and Sweden's top-selling music magazine, celebrate issue #100 by naming the 100 greatest Swedish bands of all time.
"Over the past couple of decades, it's hard to think of another country with a population equivalent to that of New York that's had such an impact on hard rock and metal as Sweden has," says editor-in-chief Martin Carlsson. "When Sweden Rock Magazine turns 100, it's only fitting that we pay tribute to the many great talents this country has produced."
In Sweden Rock Magazine #100, the doom masters CANDLEMASS are named the greatest Swedish band of all time.
"To get such an acknowledgement from Sweden Rock Magazine for what we've achieved over almost 30 years is just fantastic. Today, the phenomenon CANDLEMASS is much greater than its individual parts," says CANDLEMASS mainman Leif Edling.
Number two on the list are the legendary death metallers ENTOMBED.
For a CD single sent exclusively to the magazine's subscribers with #100, CANDLEMASS have recorded a heavy version of ENTOMBED's classic death'n'roll song "To Ride, Shoot Straight And Speak The Truth" and ENTOMBED have covered CANDLEMASS uptempo song "Black Dwarf".
"In sports, being number two means you've lost, but since CANDLEMASS are doing a cover of ENTOMBED we see this as a victory," says ENTOMBED vocalist L-G Petrov.
EUROPE, one of Sweden's biggest music exports of all time, are number three on the list.
"We took the long road back and now we've arrived. We used to say that one day this band is going to amount to something. I'm so proud of our crew and my friends in EUROPE," says EUROPE vocalist Joey Tempest.
CANDLEMASS and ENTOMBED both take the stage for two special concerts at Sweden Rock Magazine's 100th-issue party at Debaser Medis in Stockholm, Sweden on January 26, 2013. Tickets are on sale and cost SEK 220. Ticket information: www.debaser.se
