DEF LEPPARD Hiatus Enabled New Vault Projects
June 14, 2011DEF LEPPARD frontman Joe Elliott told The Pulse Of Radio that finally having a break from current band duties enabled the group to finally start dealing with their past. In addition to the band's newly-released "Mirror Ball" collection marking the group's first-ever live album, they've also published "Def Leppard: The Definitive Visual History". The book features 450 classic and unseen photos, with text from legendary rock photographer Ross Halfin, and commentary by the band.
DEF LEPPARD and HEART kick off their joint tour tomorrow night (June 15) in West Palm Beach, Florida at the Cruzan Amphitheatre.
Elliott admitted that had the band not been enjoying a prolonged hiatus, neither project would've happened. "Having just done, kind of five solid years on the road on two albums; we decided to take the year off, which has basically turned into 18 months, really," he said. "It gave us just a little bit more time to decompress, y'know, and make it less painful to be looking over your shoulder. Consequently, we've put together a coffee table book of photographs from the bygone days, if you like. And it gave us the opportunity to cherry pick some stuff for a live album that I dare say we would've said no to had we been going straight into doing a studio record when we came off the road in 2009."
"Mirror Ball", is likely to sell between 15,000 and 20,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on June 7.
"Mirror Ball" is available exclusively at Walmart and Sam's Club locations in the United States and Canada. The album includes a 50-minute DVD that contains live performances and intimate backstage footage of the band captured on the road. A special limited vinyl edition is also available. "Mirror Ball" is also available online, marking the first time the band's music was officially available for digital purchase.
"Mirror Ball" features a mix of live DEF LEPPARD classics (recorded throughout The Sparkle Lounge Tour),three brand new studio songs and the aforementioned bonus DVD. "Mirror Ball" is DEF LEPPARD's first ever live album and features rock classics such as "Animal", "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Photograph", "Nine Lives" and "Rock Of Ages". The album also brings together three brand new studio tracks "Undefeated", "Kings Of The World" and "It's All About Believin'" taking their place with ease within this classic setlist.
