DEFTONES: Performance Footage Of New Song Posted Online
September 20, 2008Fan-filmed video footage of DEFTONES performing a brand new song, tentatively titled "Melanie", this past Thursday night (September 18) at Spaceland in Silverlake, California can be viewed below.
In his review of the show, Rick Florino of ARTISTdirect says of the track, "the evening's one new song proved simultaneously rapturous and deadly. [Singer Chino] Moreno prefaced it by saying, 'You haven't heard this one yet.' The song's sharp riff clashed and killed, while the chorus soared. The singer lunged into the crowd, and his voice sailed across [Stephen] Carpenter's [guitar] tidal wave of distortion during the hook. The new cut was edgy and vibrant — like all great DEFTONES songs are."
DEFTONES is currently mixing its sixth studio album, "Eros", for an early 2009 release. The CD was recorded in Sacramento with producer Terry Date (SOUNDGARDEN, PANTERA) and engineer Scott Olson (UNEARTH).
The band's last CD, "Saturday Night Wrist", came out in October 2006 and its creation nearly resulted in the DEFTONES' demise. But Chino Moreno said, "Our working relationship is better than it's ever been before. As a result, everything has improved — our friendships and our lives. We're all really happy now."
DEFTONES will headline KUPD's End of Summer Scorcher tonight (Saturday, September 20) in Peoria, Arizona with ALICE IN CHAINS.
