DENDURA Vocalist 'Taking A Break'
August 2, 2009Vocalist Aziza A. Poggi has announced that she is "taking a break" from her singing duties in the Grand Rapids, Michigan progressive metal band DENDURA in order to "rejuvenate and evolve into other musical projects." She comments in a statement, "DENDURA has been at a standstill with our album on Killzone Records produced by Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, QUEENSRŸCHE, DOKKEN). Due to the economy, Killzone, like many other record labels, simply doesn't have the funds to complete our album; therefore, we are not able finish the album within a reasonable time. We all have the determination to complete this album, but realistically it may be up to a few years. In the meantime, we are working more on a self-produced album.
"Since realizing the Neil Kernon album will take longer than any of us anticipated, I have decided that I need to focus on other singing opportunities and projects. With that said, I am taking a break from DENDURA for a while. I am not quitting the band, but I have to keep on a path that is healthy and positive for me. For the benefit of all involved, I need to take a step away and rejuvenate and evolve into other musical projects..
"This fall I will be performing my last show or two with DENDURA before I go on break and will be recording our self-produced album, as well. I have told the band that if they decided to still perform during my hiatus, they have my blessing hiring a session singer as long as I had a hand in the selection process.
"On a positive note, I have joined the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus and will be performing four shows with them this year including the music to 'The Lord of the Rings', and have also started a Middle Eastern fusion band with AL-ASDEKA members (in essence, I joined AL-ASDEKA). In addition, I am a classical singer vocal student in college. I also be doing some recording work for other bands and projects.
"I hope you all understand and will continue to support DENDURA and the projects I am involved in. We will keep you posted on our album's release, show information, and other news as it comes in."
DENDURA previously put out a self-released album, "New Life", and contributed a song to the award-winning film "Broken".
