DESTRUCTION Speak Out Against 'Money-Hungry' European Record Stores
February 10, 2004German thrashers DESTRUCTION are continuing to receive complains from fans who are being asked to pay double-CD prices for the special-edition "Metal Discharge" double-CD — an album originally intended by the band and their label (Nuclear Blast) to be sold for the price of a single-CD release.
Commented DESTRUCTION bassist/vocalist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer: "We all thought we get rid of that problem, but at the last shows a lot of fans were upset! They've accused us and our label Nuclear Blast [of ripping them off]! Come on, this is completely bullshit, but it shows the mentality of the music business of today.
"We always sell our merch for fair prices and every fan should know that!
"We give our fans two for one — the stores [are the ones trying to] make some extra money out of it and we are the fuckin' assholes. Great! Fuck the market economy, fuck our stuck-up capitalism."
"Like always in life, the little man gets deceived. Let's react together!
"In the United States, Nuclear Blast were smart enough to put out the two CDs on one. It kills a little bit of the atmosphere 'cause the bonus stuff is sounding different [from the main album portion]...but at least the fans can get our music for a decent price!
"I really hope we won't suffer on the same problems with our upcoming DVD [since it comes with] a bonus CD as well (the 'Alive Devastation' Japan-only live release from 2003).
"Our DVD digipack includes 5 hours of music and we don't want to leave something out!
"So let's work together and help us to find the black sheep [who are trying to rip the fans off]. It's for your sake too!
"United we stand..."
