DEVIN TOWNSEND: Update On Current Activities

March 28, 2002

Here is an update from the DEVIN TOWNSEND camp:

The American West Coast tour is on! It is billed as a STRAPPING YOUNG LAD tour and will include primarily SYL material. They are planning a STRAPPING set with one song from each of the other projects as well as feature new SYL songs. There are no plans for any other tours at this time and they will not be making any other US stops. I apologize to those on the east coast but with 2 albums to write and record this year, touring time is minimal and the west coast can be done in a week.

Chris Valagao has blended seamlessly into the band and should make the live performance even stronger, contributing vocals as well as keyboards, and a whole lot of attitude.

Devin has been rehearsing for his new project with Scotty McCargar. He has since added guitar player Brian Waddell with whom he has played since they were teenagers, and bass player named Mike Young. The vibe with the new band is great and Devin sees it as a natural split between his musical styles. It will be more musician-oriented music and he does plan to tour with this band, possibly as an opening slot for STRAPPING.

Devin has confirmed to play the ProgPower III in Atlanta in November with the new band.

ZIMMER'S HOLE are embarking on their first-ever tour of Canada with [SYL drummer] Gene [Hoglan] and the ALMIGHTY PUNCHDRUNK, and ORIGAMI GALAKTIKA from Norway. We apologize that these shows will not be with full props but should be a spectacle nonetheless.

ZIMMERS HOLE have been confirmed for the With Full Force Festival in Germany this summer. There may also be some other touring in Europe but where it will go is not known until after it is booked. It will be posted on the website when it is known, but probably not for a few months yet. Again, we don't influence where it goes, that is determined by availability and budget and is all done through an agent there. We wish the bands could play everyone's town but there are time, logistical, and budget constraints to every tour. It is a bitter reality but if a show cannot be guaranteed to cover the expenses of travel to the venue, it can't happen. Buses, crew, and gas are expensive.

ZH also now have a record deal in Europe. Legion of Flames will be released on the 29th of April on VirusWorx.

While not yet on the roster, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD will likely be performing at the Wacken Open Air Festival on August 5th. We are also considering doing the Knockout Festival in Switzerland July 17th. If so, there will likely be touring between that time but they will be going to regions not yet covered (possibly Scandinavia, Poland, Italy etc.) rather than over-stay their welcome in the other regions who saw them 2 or 3 times last year.
