DJ ROB GEE: We Weren't Gonna Let Another DIMEBAG-Type Incident Happen Again

July 14, 2006

DJ Rob Gee has commented on the controversial appearance by SLIPKNOT and BIOHAZARD members during his set at the Dutch techno festival Sensation Black last Saturday (July 8),which ended in fistfight between the DJ and a concertoer. According to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, techno fans began booing the DJ before his set had even started. At around 2:00 p.m., Gee was about to launch into his '90s hit "Ecstasy - You Got What I Need" when an audience member climbed up on stage. Allegedly feeling threatened by the man, Rob Gee got into a fistfight with the concertoer before being separated by several stage hands who witnessed the altercation.

Check out video footage of the incident from Geenstijl.nl: Video#1, Video#2.

Commenting on the episode, Rob Gee said, "You have to realize something, my best friend and bandmate, Rep, stopped hitting this individual on our own. No security pulled us off the punk. This idiot who got on stage was a big guy — bigger than Rep and I. He was obviously under the influence and had the look of fury in his eyes with the intent to harm us when he charged and swung at me with all his might. There is no way this moron was going to be restrained by holding him. There's no way if we just hit him once or twice, he was gonna stop. We simply did what was right. When we saw he was no longer a threat, we stopped and walked away.

"Let's make this perfectly clear: I'm not onstage to beat people down or incite
violence, but remember, if need be, we will and have reacted accordingly. This story could have gone a completely different way. The headlines might have read 'otherwise' if not for the action taken by my crew to keep things orderly!!!!!! I can guarantee that if this chump got me down, he would have kicked me in my head and that would have prompted other individuals to rush the stage and do the same. Then you would have had a full-scale riot. Rep and I acted accordingly to protect ourselves and everyone on stage. It was just all too recent and fresh a memory for most 'metal' bands and fans, that on December 8, 2004, 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott, and three others were murdered when a gunman, took to the stage and began shooting during the band's show in Columbus, Ohio, USA. WE WEREN'T GOING TO LET THAT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!!!

"The most ridiculous thing about all of this is that it was prompted because of the music we played. I mean, you don't have to like us — that's fine. Go grab a drink, sit down, boo us, that's totally cool, you have a right to your opinion, but rush the stage and attack us? I mean what the fuck is that? Even throwing things at us like beer and popsicles, and other objects is just silly. Popsicles are really silly. That made me laugh, I'm still laughing. However I would like to point out that even when we had various objects thrown at us, we never once lost our cool and remained professional."

Rob Gee was backed on stage by none other than DJ Starscream (a.k.a. Sid Wilson) of SLIPKNOT and Billy Graziadei and Scotty "Sure Shot" Roberts of BIOHAZARD. Other artists that performed at Sensation Black included DARK RAVER, THE PROPHET, and KAI TRACID.

DJ, producer and beat creator Rob Gee is also member of AMPT, a project featuring Sid Wilson, Scott Roberts, Fred Wood on drums, and Keith Rooney of GUTWRENCH on bass guitar.
