DOKKEN Frontman Talks About Chicken Commercial, LYNCH MOB Tour Rumors
September 15, 2009DOKKEN frontman Don Dokken was a featured guest on this past Saturday's (September 12) edition of "The Classic Metal Show". The chat is now available for streaming using the audio player below.
DOKKEN is featured in a new commercial for Norton Internet Security 2010, the latest virus, spyware and Internet protection software from Symantec. Watch the clip below. (Note: Three different versions of the commercial are available.)
A description of the commercial reads as follows: "Imagine that your hard drive is a chicken. '80s heavy metal band DOKKEN is a computer virus that wants to blow up your chicken. Don't allow heavy metal bands to have their way with your chicken. Get PC protection with Norton Internet Security 2010."
Regarding how DOKKEN came to be featured in the commercial, Don Dokken told "The Classic Metal Show", "It just fell in my lap. That was totally a fluke. We were on the road. Where I live, I have two houses on my property, and one of them is like a crash house for directors and producers and stuff; I rent it out. And one of the directors was gonna do this commercial, and it was supposed to [be] with STYX. And apparently, at the last minute, they [STYX] pulled out and, like, they [the directors] were at a crunch, and I just happened to be home pulling in the driveway coming off one of our shows. And at this company he works for — HSI [Productions]; they do all these commercials and stuff — he said, 'Hey, I'm staying at Don Dokken's place and I think he's home; I saw his car in the driveway.' They asked me if I wanted to do it, and I said, 'When are you filming? We're kind of busy.' They said, 'On a Monday.' And this was, like, on a Thursday. And I said, 'Yeah, I'm off Monday. We leave Tuesday to go back on the road.' So we just whipped in there... I said, 'What do you want me to do? I mean, we can't prepare...' He goes, 'You just need to... It's just a dead chicken...' [laughs] I didn't have a clue. I go, 'What do you mean a chicken? A chicken chicken? A live chicken?' And he goes, 'No, it's a dead chicken, and you're a virus. It's metaphorical commercial.' I said, 'Hey, I don't care. That's fine.' So I went down and did it. And they pay ungodly amounts of money and you just stand there and look mad at a chicken. And I guess there's three different versions [of the commercial]; there's one where we're eating the chicken, and you have the pelvic thrust ending where it explodes; and you have the one where it pulls a switchblade and tries to shank me and I say, 'Bro, this isn't over yet.'"
"The Classic Metal Show" can be heard every Saturday night between 9:00 p.m. EST and 3:00 a.m. EST at www.cmsradio.net.

DOKKEN's latest album "Lightning Strikes Again", was released on May 13, 2008 via Rhino Records. The CD is DOKKEN's tenth studio album and it "mark[ed] a true and definite return" to the band's classic sound, according to a press release.
