DOPE Guitarist Gives 'School Of Rock' Students Inside Look At 'Black Label Bash' Tour
May 4, 2009DOPE guitarist Virus recently gave twenty students from the Ft. Washington Paul Green's School Of Rock, where he teaches when off tour, a day to remember. On the afternoon of April 11, Virus invited the kids to The Electric Factory, where the Black Label Bash (featuring BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, SEVENDUST and DOPE) would later play to a sold-out Philadelphia crowd that evening. The students, who range from ages 12 to 18 years old, got educated on a typical day on tour: loading into the venue, setting up the stage, maintaining gear, and even getting to play Zakk Wylde's and Virus' guitars.
"Being an instructor at the Paul Green's School Of Rock is so much more than just giving kids music lessons," Virus says. "I get to teach everything from minor scales, to rehearsing properly, to stage moves. I wish I could've had this kind of tutoring from a pro when I was learning about the music biz as a kid!"
The tour then extended to DOPE's tour bus, where the kids got see how musicians live, sleep, and deal with every day tasks, while touring. After his daily meet-and-greet with V.I.P. BLACK LABEL SOCIETY fans, Zakk Wylde spent time with the students; expressing the importance of music, telling jokes, and signing autographs, which was the high point of the educational day.
