DUNCAN PATTERSON Issues ÍON Update
May 15, 2006Duncan Patterson (ANTIMATTER, ANATHEMA) has issued the following update on his ÍON project:
"The ÍON album is near completion (thanks be to god),and I've been working with a brand new singer [Emily A. Saaen; MySpace.com] on it who fits perfectly. Gigs are being discussed for October/November time. I'm considering all kinds of offers at the moment, far and near. Theres a studio report on the forum and I hope to have a clip of the album up on my MySpace page next month. The ÍON website is under construction as we speak (multumesc!),things are moving forward. Spring is in the air etc. etc."
ÍON's debut album, tentatively titled "Madre, Protégenos", is scheduled for release later in the year via Portugal's Equilibrium Music.
Formed in 2005, ÍON is primarily a solo project, although a number of guest musicians are involved in this new venture by the Ireland-based musician, which explores a more acoustic and organic side to his composition.
"Íon" is the Gaelic word for 'pure," and the music and lyrics reflect that purity. With folk, classical, ambient and celtic influences, Patterson regresses deep into his roots including a version of Irish emigrant classic "Goodbye Johnny Dear", which was penned by his great-grandfather, Johnny Patterson, in the 1800s.
