ELVENKING: New Album Update
June 4, 2010Italian folk/power metal band ELVENKING entered Piranha studios in Karsdolf, Germany on March 20 with producer Dennis Ward (ANGRA, PINK CREAM 69, PRIMAL FEAR) to begin recording their new album. Mat Sinner (PRIMAL FEAR, SINNER) is executive-producing the CD, which is tentatively due in September..
Commented the group: "While the band is still around Europe playing, the machine is still going on at full speed behind the scenes.
"At the moment Dennis Ward is mixing the album in Germany, while on the other side of the planet, artist Samuel Araya (you probably remember him for the (in)famous CRADLE OF FILTH's 'Thornography' cover, for example) is giving life to the atmospheres contained in the album through his paintings.
"And while the album production is taking its final shape, the band is ready to shoot the video for the new track 'The Cabal' on June 5th and 6th, with director Mirco Andreis, who previously worked with the band on 'The Divided Heart' video [see below]."
In a recent interview, ELVENKING vocalist Damnagoras stated about the band's new material, "This album won't be based on any specific topic at all. This time all lyrics will be separate as it was in the past. Talking about the direction of the music and the songs… it's pretty difficult, you know. Of course there are some typical ELVENKING songs — but with something new, as usual. As we always say, with each album we want to make something new, something fresh, and I think these songs go along these lines. You see, you'll know there's ELVENKING playing 'cause there's the melody, there's the violin and all this stuff, but it's something new again and I think it's something between what we made on 'The Scythe' and what we made on the 'Two Tragedy Poets' acoustic album."
ELVENKING last fall announced the addition of session violin player Lethien to the group's ranks.
Back in September, 2007, ELVENKING explained that Elyghen had temporarily moved to Ireland for working reasons. They emphasized that he wasn't leaving the band and that Eleonora (the girl who had played the violin in the quartet that performed on ELVENKING albums) would help the band out on live dates that Elyghen couldn't be present for.
ELVENKING released an acoustic album, "Two Tragedy Poets (...And A Caravan Of Weird Figures)", in Europe on November 14, 2008 via AFM Records. The CD was issued in digipack and jewel case formats.
ELVENKING's last "electric" album, "The Scythe", was released in Europe in September 2007 via AFM Records.
The band's video for the song "The Divided Heart" can be viewed below. The clip was shot with director Mirco Andreis (ELDRITCH, MACBETH, DISARMONIA MUNDI).
"The Scythe" was mixed at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland. The mastering took place at Finnvox Studios with Mika Jussila and Nino Laurenne.
