ERA VULGARIS Frontman Responds To QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Fans' Queries

Following the announcement that the next QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE album is to be entitled "Era Vulgaris", a statement has been issued by Chris Rob, frontman with Irish metal band ERA VULGARIS, in response to a deluge of messages from QOTSA fans enquiring as to the meaning of the name. The following is taken from the ERA VULGARIS MySpace blog page:

"Well, I guess the advertising really worked; our name is getting out there in a much bigger way than we thought possible because it looks like Mr. Josh Homme is now next in line to pay his tributes to Mr. Crowley through the name of 'Era Vulgaris'.

"To be honest, we think this is fantastic; the more people made aware of the incredible work of The Great Beast the better...but there's the problem! In the last week, since their announcement that their next album is to be called 'Era Vulgaris', we have been inundated with messages through myspace from QOTSA fans asking us to explain the meaning of the name.

"Now I'm all too happy to explain this to people but there's only so many times you can click copy and paste in a day before the head starts to buzz and the stack has to be cranked to eleven and it's time to rip into some grind riffing. Yeah, you heard it right, QOTSA fans are driving me to grindcore! So Mr. Homme, I'm calling out to you; educate your fans...and quickly!

"In brief, Era Vulgaris is Latin for the Common Age — if you don't subscribe to the church (catholic, presbyterian, mormon, seventh day cap wearing no dancing beard growing adventists — whatever!) you use 'ev' after the year in place of 'AD' because these are not the years of our lord. We have no lord, we have ourselves, the common age and we are its......fuck, brilliant! Everything's gonna be alright Era fans, I've come up with the perfect 'homme'age to reciprocate this gesture. We're already working hard writing tunes for our second album, new working title: 'Queens of the Common Age'... I hope he likes it! Haha."

ERA VULGARIS' debut album, "What Stirs Within", was released in February 2007 to wide critical acclaim and is available through PlasticHead Distribution and Code7 Music.
