Ex-ATHEIST Drummer's GNOSTIC Remix And Remaster Debut
December 3, 2005GNOSTIC, the Atlanta, Georgia-based band featuring former ATHEIST drummer Steve Flynn, have re-released their demo from earlier this summer with all-new vocals as well as a brand new mix.
"We're excited about the new mix," says Flynn. "We changed the vocal style and arrangements. We added a little definition to the kick drums, brought out cymbal and snare parts, gave the guitars more power/crunch and volume and really brought the bass out. We're a rhythm-section-driven band and we wanted to make sure you could hear the bass and drums without sacrificing crunch and volume on the guitars. In trying to achieve that, we also remastered it. It has a crisper more balanced sound than the first version we released eight weeks ago. We went back in primarily to heavy-up the vocals and change the vocal arrangements. On the first version, we hadn't spent a lot of time giving feedback to our vocalist Kevin on style, arrangements, and such. As we're rather new as a band (in existence for one year),we were focused mostly on writing the instrumental parts of the music. In fact, we keep working on it. The songs on this demo keep evolving even as we write new material. I keep adding better drum parts to match what the bass is doing and vice versa. I think the songs as we play them today are even better than on this demo, but that's how it goes."
Four of the songs — "Corrosive", "Violently Calm", "Mindlock" and "Wall of Lies" — can be downloaded at www.myspace.com/gnosticmusic.
GNOSTIC will be seeking a deal in 2006 with the help of Flynn's former bandmate Kelly Shaefer and his Starrfactory Records indie label (which also licensed the ATHEIST back catalog to Relapse Records). GNOSTIC hope to release their debut album in 2006. You can also visit the band at their official web site, www.gnosticmusic.com.
