Ex-BROKEN HOPE Guitarist Disputes Former Bandmate's Account Of Group's Split
April 18, 2002Ex-BROKEN HOPE guitarist Brian Griffin has issued a statement in response to former bandmate Jeremy Wagner's version of the events that led to the act's untimely split last month. Here is Griffin's message in its entirety:
“While I was away in Europe [running sound for SOIL], I was made aware of recent statements made by members of the late BROKEN HOPE concerning mine and Sean's involvement with the new album. Now that I am in the country, and have a chance, I figured I would clear up a few things as I was disturbed to find out that we were painted in such a bad light.
“First and foremost for anyone that cares, [bassist] Sean [Baxter] and I did not quit the band. Jeremy and [vocalist] Scott [Creekmore] quit the band to do their own non-death metal project. Sean and I were just as surprised as everyone else. All of the music was recorded in my studio along with the help of Scott and Sean so that would more or less mean I was involved in 100% of it, which contradicts the previous statement. 85% of it was written solely by Sean and myself. Jeremy wrote 9 minutes, so we can clear that up. I also ran and maintained the web site as well as all the merchandise. My involvement really can't be disputed and to hear that it was really caught me by suprise. But hey, that's the internet sometimes. Just ask people that know us and you will hear the truth.
“Sean and I will release our material under a different name with a new lineup. We just need to lay down the vocals and mix. Both of us have been active with other releases and tons of touring over the past few years because BROKEN HOPE got too stagnant for US. When I heard it was mentioned the other way around and that we were so uninvolved I was.......well, let's just say irritated. Anyone that knows me, or has met or worked with me knows better anyway. There were no lyrics or vocals presented for BROKEN HOPE at the time Jeremy and Scott left, as they mentioned in their statement so I guess everyone would have had to wait anyway.
“I won't go into the he said/she said bullsh.t anymore. I just didn't want our friends out there misunderstanding what took place. Good luck to those guys with whatever they do. Time to move on.
“Since we announced on the BROKEN HOPE web site that Sean and I are releasing our material, we have received more label interest and support than we did when we were in BROKEN HOPE. I guess it is a blessing in disguise but it is sad it had to come this way. Thanks to all that have written us and provided us with the motivation to forge ahead. Yes, it does suck that the end came for BROKEN HOPE. I wish it wasn't so, but it was out of my control. Jeremy founded the band and he put it to rest.
“If you have any further questions for me, just email me at [email protected] or Sean at [email protected].”
