Ex-JUDAS PRIEST Singer TIM OWENS: I Was Fired By E-Mail
May 9, 2004Former JUDAS PRIEST singer Tim "Ripper" Owens has revealed to the Washington Post that he found out about plans for the band to reunite with Rob Halford via an e-mail from band management. Owens says he was told the switch would be "best for everyone."
"They could have called me," Owens says. "But whatever."
According to Owens, he lost his rock virginity in 1984, when his older brother took him to the JUDAS PRIEST/GREAT WHITE show in Cleveland. Halford was Owens's idol.
"Rob Halford could do it all," says Owens. "He could sound like a woman, or he could sound like the devil. There was nobody like him."
Only a very small percentage of the folks who want to wail as demonically as Halford are born with the necessary physical ability. Owens had the tools as well as the desire.
"When I was very young, I realized I could sing along with Elvis, or whatever was playing around the house, and stay right in key," he says. "And I could roar, too. It's a gift, but I had to work at it." [Read more] (free registration required)
