FEAR FACTORY Drummer Explains Bulgarian Concert Cancellation

August 12, 2006

FEAR FACTORY drummer Raymond Herrera was a guest on the "Varbanov Supermarket" program on the Bulgarian rock station Tangra Mega Rock on Friday, August 11. Herrera spoke about the reports that the cancellation of the group's August 11 concert in Sofia, Bulgaria was caused by "low ticket sales" and the band's plans for a new studio album. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

Tangra Mega Rock: Well, obviously the reason for you putting you live on the radio here is that we are getting thousands of angry messages from Bulgarian FEAR FACTORY fans, because you were supposed to be tonight in Sofia, Bulgaria to play here for the first time. So actually what happened?

Raymond: "Well, we did everything we were supposed to do and I believe it was a few days ago we couldn't get hold of the promoter (New Musical Agency - NMA),he wouldn't return our calls, he wouldn't return our manager calls or our booking agent's call and we couldn't get hold of the guy and then we started to hear promoter sources that the guy had not planned on doing the show anyway because he didn't promote it and I guess his excuse was the lack of ticket sales and in reality he didn't spend any money doing anything and on top of that he never got back to us and he never paid us anything.

"There was supposed to be a upfront payment of half the money and that was supposed to be done about three weeks ago but we never got that and never since then we were able to get hold of the guy. . .Now there is no show because this guy didn't do his end of the deal."

Tangra Mega Rock: Actually the funny thing is, or the sad thing is that with the fake Monsters of Rock bullshit, this is actually the second FEAR FACTORY show in one summer cancelled for Bulgaria. Does it mean that you already guys have any animosity and hatred towards Bulgaria now?

Raymond: "No, no, not all we know that this is an isolated case with the promoter, not the fans, and, you know, we have to try to make it up there again we might have to try with different promoter this time though."

Tangra Mega Rock: You said you were going back to the U.S. and South America in 10 days. Unfortunately, we won't have the chance to listen to the new songs live this time. Please tell us more about this upcoming album.

Raymond: "We have tours until the end of the year we are going to South America and then we come home again and then we do New Zealand, Australia and Taiwan, and then we come back home again for three weeks and then we do a U.S. tour that will take us to the end of the year.

"We kind of started writing new music, but we haven't really concentrated on it too much until maybe in the next couple of months we will start thinking about the next record."
