Former FEAR FACTORY Guitarist Recruits Ex-BUILT XL Singer For New Band
May 10, 2002Former FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares has recruited 28-year-old ex-BUILT XL frontman Jason "Gong" Jones to sing in his as-yet-unnamed new outfit, BLABBERMOUTH.NET can exclusively reveal.
Cazares and Jones have spent the last couple of weeks reworking three of the five songs originally demoed for what would have been FEAR FACTORY's fifth studio album, and intend to mix down the recording during the next week before submitting it to Roadrunner Records, to whom Dino is still officially signed.
The music for the three cutsnone of which have titles at the momentwas originally laid down in February, but has since been re-recorded by Cazares, who was also responsible for re-programming the drum machine on the latest tape.
A relative unknown, Gong had previously auditioned for the then-vacant singer slot in SEPULTURA during the Brazilian band's vocalist search in 1997 and was briefly a member of CHOP SHOP, the short-lived Los Angeles group led by ex-MANHOLE guitarist Scott Ueda.
Cazares is currently seeking a "sick" drummer and bass player to complete the group's line-up before commencing work on the band's debut album, which will reportedly follow a heavy and aggressive direction yet sound substantially different from FEAR FACTORY.
In related news, Cazares' ASESINO project, which also features in its ranks STATIC-X bassist Tony Campos, will support STATIC-X at about two weeks' worth of dates starting in early June. Among the shows that ASESINO are due to appear at are the following:
Jun. 07 - Verizon Wireless - Houston, TX
Jun. 08 - C101/Sculptures - Corpus Christi, TX
Jun. 13 - House of Blues - Anaheim, CA
