GODSMACK Drummer: 'I Always Wanted To Be PETER CRISS'

David Glessner of the San Antonio Express-News recently conducted an interview with GODSMACK drummer Shannon Larkin. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

On his one-off gig substitute drumming for Ozzy Osbourne and BLACK SABBATH:

"Sharon Osbourne called me and said, 'Can you learn 25 songs in 10 days and go on Ozzfest?' I got in a Learjet with SABBATH and Ozzy's band, and about 45 minutes outside of L.A., it starts getting hot inside the plane. Then smoke starts pouring out of the air-conditioning vents and I feel the plane tilting sideways.

"I thought, 'Oh (crap),I'm going down.' I didn't have a daughter at the time, and I'll tell you, brother, the only thing I was thinking is, 'This is all right, man. I'm gonna go down with these legendary dudes.'"

[On the gig] "It was a career highlight. It would have been my life highlight if I hadn't had a child."

On GODSMACK's upcoming tour with ROB ZOMBIE:

"I'm really looking forward to meeting Zombie. I'm a horror-movie buff. I'd love to have just an hour to pick his brain about his movies. I'd love at some point on the tour to just chill out and talk about gore."

On his childhood:

"After dinner, instead of going to the TV, my mom and dad would take me and my sister downstairs to the den and play us music. My dad was into '50s doo-wop, be-bop and country guys like WILLIE NELSON, JOHNNY CASH and WAYLON JENNINGS. My mom was all about THE BEATLES, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL and even turned me on to JUDAS PRIEST, if you can believe that. It was CREEDENCE who actually made me want to get a drum set, but then came KISS, and I always wanted to be Peter Criss."
