GODSMACK: Facing The Demons
November 2, 2002GODSMACK have now set "Faceless" as the tentative title of the follow-up to 2000's "Awake", currently being recorded at The Hit Factory/Criteria Studios in Miami for a March release through Republic/Universal.
"It's heavy in a GODSMACK way — it's punchy, it's got a lot of grooves, but it's a little more melodic than the older stuff," frontman Sully Erna told Rolling Stone about the new material. "The band, melody-wise, has grown. There's more harmonies in it, but it's still got a good tough edge to it. There's stuff that's raw and it just goes for it. There are good melodies to it, but it's not very commercial sounding. I'm really happy with the way the stuff is going."
"I think this is going to be a nice extension of the last two records," Erna continued. "This shows a lot more maturity, and the songs are a lot more colorful. It's still tough and it bites down and it means business. People definitely aren't going to say that we're sold out or pussed out on this record. It's pretty aggressive, but it's very melodic and that's what I like about it. I think it's going to help us grow to another level."
Among the dozen-or-so tracks that will find their way onto the finished product are the following:
01. Faceless
02. Releasing the Demons
03. Serenity
04. Changes
05. Erased
06. Straight Out Of Line
With respect to the album's tentative title, Erna stated the following. "Besides what the song is about, it's kind of where the band sits right now," he said. "We've never been quite been a part of the MTV culture. They accept us to a certain degree, but we're not in there with the PINKs and the KID ROCKs. So, to a certain degree this band is kind of faceless — we're always flying under the radar."
