GUNS N' ROSES: 'Greatest Hits' To Sell Over 100K Copies In First Week
March 29, 2004GUNS N' ROSES' "Greatest Hits" CD is expected to shift in excess of 100,000 copies in the U.S. during its first week of release to debut in the Top Ten of next week's The Billboard 200 chart, according to Reuters. Other albums expected to sell over 100,000 copies during the same weeks are CARL THOMAS' "Let's Talk About It" (Bad Boy/Universal) and N.E.R.D's "Fly or Die" (Virgin). In both cases, those numbers would handsomely beat the starts of each act's debut set.
As previously reported, the U.S. District Court in L.A. turned down GUNS N' ROSES' petition earlier this month seeking a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against Geffen Records seeking to prevent the label from releasing the greatest hits record. The suit claimed that GNR hasn't "been given the opportunity to approve the choice of songs, the artwork, the release date or the re-mastering done on the tracks included on this compilation." A press statement from the band stated that the greatest hits set would "hinder the release of the band’s long-awaited new studio album 'Chinese Democracy'." Sources say that the label has advanced Axl Rose $13 million over the past six years for production of the album, which was slated to come out last year in the fourth quarter, but remains unreleased.
