HANOI ROCKS Frontman Speaks Out On Reunion, Solo Album
December 20, 2002In a recent interview with Metal Reference, Finnish sex icon Michael Monroe commented on the release of his upcoming solo album, "Whatcha Want", and the recent reunion of his '80s glam band, HANOI ROCKS.
"One might say that my solo career and the rebirth of HANOI ROCKS go kind of hand in hand, but the latter is my first priority," Monroe explained. "The reason I call it a rebirth rather than a reunion is that it's basically me and [guitarist] Andy McCoy that run a new version of the band with new musicians. We were calling the band HANOI ROCKS before the others joined back in the '80s, and we call [the new band] HANOI ROCKS. In the beginning, me and Andy just did a few shows for fun, performing some of the old tracks, but we figured that we might as well call it a full-scale rebirth – and here we are”.
The current album from HANOI ROCKS, "Twelve Shots on the Rocks", is presently only available domestically in Monroe's native country, Finland, where it has achieved chart success despite low expectations.
"The album will be re-mixed before it's released outside Finland, and we might add some bonus tracks, but let's wait and see. In January and February, we're gonna tour in Finland, and then it's going straight to Japan”.
As reported here a couple of days ago, McCoy and his wife Angela Nicoletti will star in an "Osbournes"-styled show, tentatively dubbed "Andy and Angela Show", which is set to premiere on Finnish television next fall.
"Well, my life is kind of private, but Andy and Angela don't mind being exposed in the media," Monroe stated. "I've just watched Ozzy in 'The Osbournes', and he's completely hilarious and funny, but surely not pathetic. He's rock 'n' roll."
