HYDROGYN Guitarist Launches COLLAPSE THE EMPIRE
May 11, 2009Guitarist Jeff Westlake of Ashland, Kentucky-based rockers HYDROGYN has announced the formation of his new band COLLAPSE THE EMPIRE. He is joined in the group by Charleston, West Virginia frontman Justin Johnson (DOG SOLDIER) and HYDROGYN members Chris Sammons (bass) and Josh Cumberland (drums).
"This is another outlet for me and is nothing like HYDROGYN at all," explains Westlake.
He adds, "I ran across Justin through The Fabulous Dancing Pig from SHEERED LEPUS and was just blown away at his style and vocal range. It was something I had been looking for and not having any luck at all and then all of the sudden there it was."
Johnson and Westlake have completed the first track for COLLAPSE THE EMPIRE's upcoming debut album, "Bak To Kado", for a fall release.
"I am looking forward to this a lot and if this first track is any indication of what it can be, then we are all in for a great time," Westlake says.
According to Westlake, COLLAPSE THE EMPIRE will in no way slow down HYDROGYN, which is scheduled to enter the studio on May 21 with veteran producer Micheal Wagener to begin recording the follow-up to "Deadly Passions", tentatively due in early 2010 via DR2 Records.
