IN FLAMES: Video Interview With ANDERS FRIDÉN Posted Online
January 13, 2010Imhotep's Paul Kearns concucted an interview with vocalist Anders Fridén of Swedish metallers IN FLAMES prior to the band's December 13, 2009 concert in Oslo, Norway. The first part of the chat deals with touring and the growing success of IN FLAMES. The second part focuses on the scene, selling albums and what's next for IN FLAMES.
Wearing a "Rehab Is For Quitters" shirt, IN FLAMES guitarist Jesper Strömblad — who checked himself into a rehabilitation clinic early last year in order to receive treatment for his alcohol addiction — rejoined the band on stage on December 11, 2009 at Hovet in Stockholm, Sweden for the last two songs of the group's set, "Take This Life" and "My Sweet Shadow". The band performed the tracks as a six-piece, with Strömblad's temporary replacement, Niclas Engelin from the Swedish band ENGEL, playing alongside Jesper.
The sold-out show was attended by 8,335 people, making it IN FLAMES' biggest headlining show ever.
The readers of Aftonbladet, the biggest newspaper in Sweden and Scandinavia, recently namedIN FLAMES' "Come Clarity" the best Swedish album of the past decade. The LP received 26 percent of all votes.
Released in February 2006, "Come Clarity" (Ferret) sold just under 24,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 58 on The Billboard 200 chart. This was more than double the first-week tally registered by the group's previous CD, "Soundtrack To Your Escape" (released in April 2004 via Nuclear Blast),which entered the chart at No. 145 (with sales of just under 11,000).
