INSOMNIUM: New Song Available For Streaming
August 31, 2011Finnish melodic death metallers INSOMNIUM will release their new album, "One For Sorrow", on October 12 in Finland, October 17 in the rest of Europe and October 18 in North America via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded in Gothenburg, Sweden with sound engineer Daniel Antonsson (also bassist in DARK TRANQUILLITY and guitarist in DIMENSION ZERO) and at Fantom studios in Tempere, Finland, where the album was also mixed by Samu Oittisen.
A new INSOMNIUM song, "Unsung", is available for streaming in the YouTube clip below. The track, which is said to be "one of the faster and heavier songs from the diverse album," is as epic as it is melodic, as melancholic as it is majestic and as brutal as it is beautiful.
Commented INSOMNIUM guitarist Ville Friman: "'Unsung' was the last song we finished only just one day before hitting the studio. It's a bit more in vein of early INSOMNIUM and definitely reminds us from our roots. Regardless of bowing to past, this song gives you good insight of the versatility of 'One For Sorrow' and also introduces something new in terms of clean vocals in courtesy of myself."
According to a press release, "One For Sorrow" is "such an amalgamation of styles that pigeonholing [INSOMNIUM] into a single category would be to rob the band of its true complexity and ignore the very essence of its sound. Recalling art-metal titans CULT OF LUNA at one turn and brutal visionaries AMON AMARTH at others, 'One For Sorrow' displays the true musical breadth of a band that has clearly come into its own."
Ville Friman comments on the album title: "The name 'One For Sorrow' comes from a traditional childrens nursery rhyme. There are ten different scenarios in the original rhyme; likewise there are ten different songs and stories on our album. I think 'One For Sorrow' truly depicts what this album is all about: bereavement, grief and loss."
INSOMNIUM will embark on a European headlining tour in November with support from fellow Finns BEFORE THE DAWN and MYGRAIN.
Commented INSOMNIUM vocalist Niilo Sevnen: "'One For Sorrow' is a truly epic album and the tour will surely be immense! We get to visit many of our favorite cities and meet the fans who have long waited for INSOMNIUM headlining show. From London to Ljubljana, we are looking forward to see you all!"
INSOMNIUM's last CD, "Across The Dark", entered the official chart in the band's home country at position No. 5. The album was also recorded at Fantom studio (where the group previously recorded its 2006 LP, "Above the Weeping World").
