KONKHRA Finalizing New Record Deal
August 23, 2008Danish extreme metallers KONKHRA have issued the following update:
"It's been a while since we thought this new record of ours ['Nothing Is Sacred'] should have been out. We have been talking to a lot of labels the past six months, and we tried to turn every stone and really make the best decision moving forward. The record is finally coming out, and we should be signing the deal this week, and have the press release right after. Also, this week we will do our band photos with our usual partner in crime: world-renowned photographer Jan Grarup will once again squeeze us in between his wartime photo-ops in Georgia and Afghanistan. This is the last little thing we have to do, and then everything is ready. Once we have the photos and signed the deal, we will be ready with the big announcement. The release date is set for January, and we will try and tour this record as much as possible. Thanks for being patient with us."
"Religion is a Whore", the new video from KONKHRA, can be viewed below (produced by Anders Koch). The song comes off "Nothing Is Sacred", which was re-recorded last year after the band encountered technical difficulties which forced it to scrap some of the previously completed early tracks. Two other tracks from the CD — "The Promise of Antagonism" and "Hail to the King" — are available for streaming on the group's MySpace page.
Commented KONKHRA in a statement: "The band wrote ['Religion is a Whore'] as a response to the 'cartoon crisis,' which was triggered by a Danish cartoonist who made a drawing of Muhammed with a bomb in his turban. To Western people this is nothing more than comedy response to the fact that certain extremists think it's the ultimate servitude to blow up innocent people. The peoples of the Muslim world attacked Danish embassies and burned the Danish flag in protests around the world. The band suggests in this song that religion is to blame, and the that religion has no place in politics whatsoever... but it doesn't stop there, 9/11 is also discussed, as there is evidence that we are NOT being told the whole truth about that event."
KONKHRA vocalist/guitarist Anders Lundemark previously stated about KONKHRA's new material, "'Doctrines of Death' is one of the extra new songs we decided to record. It's about three minutes of 240 bpm (beats per minute) blastbeat. Think 'Dominate' by MORBID ANGEL and you'll know what I mean. Mads [Lauridsen, drums] is dominating these tempos for sure, and it's very refreshing and unbelievably fun to play KONKHRA songs in these tempos. The fastest we did in the past was about 220 bpm. We hope that fans of the fast new-school death metal will give our new shit a chance. We still do the chugga mid-tempos a lot too, but there are three-four songs that take a bow in the MORBID ANGEL, VADER, BEHEMOTH direction."
KONKHRA released its latest CD, "Reality Check", in May 2003 through Code666 Records. The album was recorded at guitarist/vocalist Anders Lundemark's own Starstruck Studio and was the group's first since their split with longtime label Diehard Music.
