Listen To New SAINT ASONIA Song 'This August Day'
October 18, 2019SAINT ASONIA, the act led by ex-THREE DAYS GRACE frontman Adam Gontier and STAIND guitarist Mike Mushok, has shared the new song "This August Day". The track is the latest single from SAINT ASONIA's forthcoming album, "Flawed Design", which is due out on October 25 via Spinefarm Records.
"Two years ago this August, I went through the single most trying time of my life," says Gontier about the intensely personal song. "I had gone to a very, very dark place, and, to be honest, I didn't know if I would make it back. Not only me, but people who know me and love me didn't know if I'd ever be back. After a long and very difficult relapse with alcohol and substance abuse, and with the help of some very close family and loving friends, I found myself at a treatment center in Nashville. Not only that, but I found myself in an emergency room, hanging on to life by a thread. At that exact moment, on the other side of the continent, my life was changing in the best possible way. My son was being born. Not being physically present the day my son came into this world is something I will look back on and regret for the rest of my life. Albeit I didn't have a choice. For me, to be the father, the son, the brother, the husband, and the person I want to be, I had to go through that darkness, to finally live in the light. 'This August Day' is about all of that. It's about that one day in August that completely changed me — forever."
SAINT ASONIA previously released a music video for the disc's first single, "The Hunted", featuring GODSMACK's Sully Erna.
"The thing about 'Flawed Design' is that it took longer than we expected to make," Gontier explained. "But in the end, because of that, it turned out to be a really good piece of work. There were so many things happening in my personal life when we started the process in early 2017. I basically took a step back, took care of the things I needed to, and I went through a lot of extremely difficult situations I found myself in a bad place. But when I finally came out on the other side, I focused, we focused, and we made 'Flawed Design'. It's a very real, vulnerable look into the last few years of my life — the good, the bad, and the ugly."
He finished: "I feel confident in saying 'Flawed Design' is, without a doubt, the best body of work/music I've ever created. I hope it has the same impact on fans as it has on me."
SAINT ASONIA sparked into life four years ago when Gontier and Mushok (also an important part of the NEWSTED setup in 2013) decided to turn their joint ambition to make music that is "raw, real, and straight from our hearts" into a new band and a fully-fledged studio outing.
The result was their acclaimed self-titled debut, released in 2015, which charted Top 10 in Canada and entered the Billboard U.S. Rock Albums chart at #2. The album was driven by the Top 10 radio tracks "Better Place" and "Let Me Live My Life", as well as the high-concept video to the featured track "Fairy Tale".
Given the pedigree and profile of the musicians involved — they are collectively responsible for 28 Top 10 U.S. rock radio hits, including 17 No. 1s — the demand was immediately there for SAINT ASONIA to take to the road. Following an inaugural main stage appearance at Rock On The Range in 2015, the band set off on U.S. amphitheater tours with BREAKING BENJAMIN and DISTURBED.
In Europe, they guested on an arena run with MÖTLEY CRÜE, visiting the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, and Finland, as well as playing several dates in Russia and Eastern Europe. As a consequence, Gontier has been back to the region for extensive solo acoustic shows.
With Adam's cousin Cale Gontier of Canadian band ART OF DYING on bass and STAIND's Sal Giancarelli on drums, the latest SAINT ASONIA lineup is now primed for a comprehensive live campaign in support of the forthcoming sophomore release; this will include key festivals and headline shows, both at home and abroad. With a new deal in place and a new chapter primed to unfold, the four musicians are keen to place as much emphasis on the international arena as continuing to build their success story at home.
