LOLLAPALOOZA: Syracuse Show Canceled!
July 17, 2003The Lollapalooza concert scheduled for July 26 at Vernon Downs in Syracuse, New York has been canceled, according to the Post-Standard.
Dave Armstrong, of The Creative Entertainment Group out of Binghamton, said Wednesday in a news release that poor ticket sales forced the cancellation.
"Due to the costs of production versus the estimated ticket sales of 15,000, it did not make fiscal sense to play this date," he said. "Unfortunately, the venue is such that Lollapalooza would have needed to bring in additional production facilities, which made the cost to produce the Syracuse show significantly more than other venues on the tour."
Lollapalooza, which was started by frontman Perry Farrell of this year's headliners JANE'S ADDICTION in 1991, was also scheduled to feature AUDIOSLAVE, INCUBUS and JURASSIC 5, among others.
The festival has suffered from sluggish ticket sales nationwide. Its opening date outside Detroit was canceled a few weeks ago, though festival organizers say it was because the venue couldn't accommodate the setup.
Armstrong said ticket refunds are available where they were bought.
