Man Collapses, Is Revived At New Jersey OZZFEST; 80 People Arrested
August 16, 2007Claire Heininger of NJ.com reports: A 27-year-old man had to be resuscitated several times earlier today (Thursday, August 16) after he lost his pulse and heartbeat while attending the day-long Ozzfest concert at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, police said.
Authorities reported more than 80 arrests at the concert as of 8:30 p.m.
The man, whose name and hometown were not immediately available, is believed to have ingested a combination of alcohol, illegal drugs and caffeine, said Sgt. Stephen Jones, a State Police spokesman.
The man collapsed earlier today and was revived several times by medics before being taken to Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel for emergency surgery, Jones said.
The 80-plus arrests included several for underage drinking and drug possession, as well as some assault charges, resisting arrest and defiant trespass, police said. The charges are similar to those recorded at other recent PNC concerts — 92 arrests were made at an O.A.R. concert last Saturday, and 54 at an INCUBUS show before that, Jones said.
No other major injuries were reported, and Jones described the situation as "under control" as of 8:30 tonight.
