MEGADETH's 'Built For War' Featured In 'NCIS: Los Angeles'
October 9, 2013CBS television show "NCIS: Los Angeles" featured the MEGADETH song "Built For War" in its latest episode, which aired yesterday (Tuesday, October 8). Check out the clip below.
In an interview with Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show, MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine revealed that "Built For War" was written "about arson." He said: "[MEGADETH drummer] Shawn [Drover] had a song that he and I wrote together, [and MEGADETH guitarist] Chris [Broderick] had a little bit to do with it [as well] — so we've got the first time all three of us are writing together. Shawn's tentative title was 'Face Melter' and I went, 'That's such a stupid title,' so I went, 'How about we just call it 'Ball Buster'?' just to bust his balls on it, right? So we had that as a funny title for a while, but that one ended up being called 'Built For War'."
Speaking to Guitar Player magazine, Mustaine called "Built For War" "the hardest song I've ever sung in my career… It was totally easy to play on rhythm [guitar], because it's a really cool, chunky, down and dirty kind of a riff, even though it's in that weird time signature, then it goes into 4/4 at the re-intro, and then it goes back into that crazy algebraic rhythm. But when it came down to singing over the top of it…"
He added: "I don't think I'll ever be playing that song live. If I do, I might just sing it and not play guitar, or say, 'Hey, this is audience participation time!'"
"Built For War" comes off MEGADETH's latest album, "Super Collider", which has sold less than 70,000 copies in the United States since its June 4 release. The CD arrived in stores via Mustaine's new label, Tradecraft, distributed by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). It marks MEGADETH's first release since the band's split with Roadrunner Records.
