MELECHESH Filming 'Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin' Video In Istanbul

December 9, 2010

Sumerian thrashing black metallers MELECHESH are currently in Istanbul, Turkey filmed a video for the song "Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin" with Canadian director Rouzbeh Heydari. Director of cinematography and producer are Emin Murat Kiliç and Tumay Irgas, respectively.

"Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin" comes off MELECHESH's latest album, "The Epigenesis", which was recorded in the newly built Babajim Studios in Istanbul, Turkey and was mixed by Reuben de Lautour and mastered by Pieter Snapper.

Commented MELECHESH mainman Ashmedi: "We decided to film in Istanbul in order to capitalize on the suitable and real scenery and avoid a green screen, the location is surreal. Choosing to film in Istanbul also keeps us in line with 'The Epigenesis' photo shoot and recording which were both done here.

"Rouzbeh, the director, flew in from Canada today and the whole band will arrive tonight. Friday we will do some pre-production , Saturday and Sunday we will be shooting in two different locations.

"We chose 'Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin' because it has all of the desired elements, speed, thrashiness, aggression, mysticism and Middle Eastern ritualistic beats and parts."

Ashmedi previously stated about "The Epigenesis", "There are several moods on the album, from very aggressive raw songs with minimal riffs to ritualistic near eastern metal opuses, one of which is a 12-minute song that combines Mid-Eastern music, psychedelic rock and metal. . .. Lyrically, the album deals with several themes within the spheres of MELECHESH, such as Sumerian/Mesopotamian/Anunnakian themes, as well as other occult near-eastern and cosmological philosophies and ideas. Nevertheless, the lyrics do have dual meanings that are to some extent subliminal and can relate to one's own life journey, but that's for the individual to figure out. As for traditional instruments, we subtly included several instruments such as Baglama Saz, Tanbour, Persian Santur, Ney, Indian Sitar, Azeri Tar, Bindir… I say subtly because we definitely wanted the album to be metal…. Sumerian thrashing black metal."

The "The Epigenesis" cover art was created by the U.K.-based renowned occult artist John Coulthart, who had already collaborated with MELECHESH in the past.

Fan-filmed video footage of MELECHESH performing at Trix in Antwerp, Belgium on December 5, 2010 can be viewed below.
