METALLICA Address Bassist Rumors, Upcoming CD
February 8, 2003On Wednesday (Feb. 5) after announcing the Summer Sanitarium 2003 Tour, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich was asked about the vacant bassist position in the group and rumors of ex-MARILYN MANSON member Twiggy Ramirez or OZZY OSBOURNE bassist Robert Trujillo joining. "It's not our job to... I hate to confirm or deny horseshit that they say," Ulrich said. "But if anybody is going to say anything it's got to come from any of those guys. Look, Twiggy, Rob, they're all good friends of ours. If anybody's got anything to say... I don't think it's our right to talk about any of these experiences. We will have a bass player, hopefully soon (laughs)."
With regards to METALLICA's upcoming "St. Anger" CD (due June 10),guitarist Kirk Hammett said, "Well, the new album is forging through. We'll finish it in May and it will come out in June. It sounds like torrential hellfire. It's just totally not what you think it is, and I love that." Drummer Lars Ulrich chimed in, "It's up to torrential hellfire now?" Hammett: "Yeah." Ulrich: "What was it before?" Hammett: "Inferno...before that, it was the best thing we've done this century." METALLICA are working with producer Bob Rock on "St. Anger" in San Francisco, and Rock also laid down some bass tracks for a few songs as well. It's METALLICA's first studio album since 1997's "Reload", which has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide, according to Elektra Entertainment.
