METALLICA: 'Death Magnetic' Still No. 1 In Norway

October 7, 2008

METALLICA's "Death Magnetic" has topped the Norwegian album chart for the fourth consecutive week, according to the Norwegian music industry magazine Faro Journalen. This means that "Death Magnetic" has tied METALLICA's previous Norwegian chart record — the band's critically maligned "St. Anger" effort also held the No. 1 position for four straight weeks in 2003.

Universal Music senior product manager Eivind Slotsvik tells Faro Journalen that the album is selling faster and receiving more media coverage than "St. Anger". "We have already sold 55,000 CDs, 3,500 digital albums, and 6,000 digital singles of 'The Day That Never Comes'," he says. "We hope to sell 70,000 copies of 'Death Magnetic' by Christmas, and we are considering doing more TV ads."

Universal Music conducted a short teaser campaign on Norwegian TV the week of the "Death Magnetic" release.

"Death Magnetic" topped The Billboard 200 chart for the third consecutive week with U.S. sales of 132,000 copies for the seven-day period ending September 28. This brings the total number of copies of "Death Magnetic" sold in the U.S. so far to 959,000.

"Death Magnetic" sold 490,000 copies in its first four days of release, arriving in stores on Friday, September 12 instead of the usual Tuesday.
