METALLICA: Proceeds From San Rafael Concert Downloads To Benefit 'Marin Rocks'

September 23, 2009

The Marin History Museum has just announced the results of the recent benefit concert by METALLICA at the Marin Veteran's Auditorium. The concert, a first by the band in their "adopted" hometown, was highly anticipated and overwhelmingly received, selling out in three days, and providing a financial boost to MHM's Marin Rocks exhibition scheduled to open in 2010. The concert grossed approximately $375,000 and MHM expects to net an estimated $200,000 in proceeds which will help pay for the costs associated with the Marin Rocks project.

"We are thrilled and delighted with the results from the concert," said Merry Alberigi, Executive Director of Marin History Museum. "We've received so many phone calls and emails telling us what a great event it was and what an incredible time was had by all. We're extremely grateful to our donors, our board and staff, and especially to MOONALICE, METALLICA and their crew, and the wonderful fans who made this event such a success. Marin Rocks will benefit the entire Marin community and it would not be possible without the generous support of our donors, staff, volunteers, and the musicians who live and work here."

In addition to the net proceeds from the live event, the band will donate the proceeds generated from the sales of the mp3 of the Marin show to also benefit Marin Rocks. The Marin show at Marin Veteran's Auditorium can be downloaded from the METALLICA web site LiveMetallica.com for a fee of $9.95.

The band previously stated about playing the benefit concert: "We have made Marin County in Northern California our home for many years, so we were more than honored when the Marin History Museum asked us to participate in their benefit concert as they prepare to launch the exhibit Marin Rocks. That's right, finally, a show in our own backyards . . . something that has NEVER happened!"
