MIKE CHLASCIAK: 'HALFORD Has Not Broken Up'
February 4, 2004Former HALFORD guitarist "Metal" Mike Chlasciak recently gave an interview to HeavyMetalRadio.net in which he spoke about the possibility of another HALFORD album coming out and his plans for his current project, PAINMUSEUM. Asked to clarify the future of the HALFORD band, Mike said, "I think its safe to say that HALFORD is in sleep mode right now. Some people might find this to be good news as the band has not broken up, although the media certainly treats it as such. Either way it doesn't matter to me how you look at it. All I know is that when the time is right to do another album we will, and I can tell you that it will be a great album once again demonstrating the HALFORD style."
With regards to the "concept" behind the debut album from PAINMUSEUM, Mike said, "I wanted to make a record that as explained above just speaks to metalheads. It wasn't preconceived, with like well, 'MESHUGGAH is selling this much, but if we say black metal then we can sell this amount of records here and there' — FUCK that!! I don't give a fuck how many records I sell, because quite frankly it doesn't take a lot of money to make me happy, so I made a record that allowed me to sleep at night. All the kiss-asses, trend followers are not real metal musicians and they can go fuck themselves as far as I'm concerned."
When asked how the reception has been for his new band and CD, Mike said, "Well there is no reaction to the CD as the album is not yet released, although we are looking at a May 2004 release. The handful of shows that PAINMUSEUM played live were awesome. Let's put it this way .... we had 150 kids right in front of the stage headbanging, fucking loving it .... and none of them ever has heard a minute of PAINMUSEUM live. That should say something. What this band does really well is just connect immediately with real metalheads .... people, labels, everyone has been asking me what style of music is it?? How does it sound?? Well, PAINMUSEUM sounds like a real fucking heavy metal band ... I'm not gonna pigeon-hole it into a type of metal, because it contains all styles." Read the rest of the interview here.
