NAPALM DEATH Singer Defends Decision To Invite HATEBREED Frontman To Guest On New Record
November 20, 2004NAPALM DEATH frontman Mark "Barney" Greenway recently spoke to Tartarean Desire about the group's current North American tour and the band's upcoming album, "The Code Is Red...Long Live The Code", tentatively due in March 2005 via Century Media Records. An excerpt from the interview follows:
On how HATEBREED's Jamey Jasta's guest appearance on the new album came about:
Barney Greenway: "Well, you know I've actually known Jamey for, we've known Jamey collectively for well over ten years. Jamey used to book shows for us many years ago. So it's not like we just contacted him because he was just in town. We actually know him fairly well. I haven't seen the forums yet, but I find it rather sad that people are ragging on him really. He's actually a really good guy, and well, yeah, okay his band has become really successful for a hardcore band, but they have done it on their own terms really. The thing is, he's helped a lot of people out, he's got his label now, and he's doing it very honestly, and the label operates in a very honest way with the bands which is something you don't see from many labels. They mostly tend to be righteous. I know he treats his bands really well. He's done a lot, he's booked shows, and always treated us very well. I can't complain about Jamey. There's other people out there who have treated other people a lot worse than he has."
Tartarean Desire: I think that people think he doesn’t have the right style in vocals to compliment NAPALM. How did he work out??
Barney Greenway: "All I can say is that he does. He does his shouting thing which is obviously not as deep as my voice, but it fits you know. I mean, shit, Jello [Biafra] does vocals on there, and you can say that his vocal style is completely different to NAPALM. Although the two bands have the parallels ethically, but his vocal style is vastly different, but he works."
