Norway's QUART Festival Files Bankruptcy For Second Time In Two Years

October 5, 2009

According to The Canadian Press, the organizers of Norway's biggest summer music festival have declared bankruptcy for the second time in two years.

District Court records show Quart festival organizers filed for bankruptcy Monday in the southern coastal town of Kristiansand where the festival is held.

The 2008 festival was cancelled after going bankrupt then.

Organizer Arild Buli told the commercial network TV2 Monday that Quart is 15 million kroner (about $2.6 million) in debt after this year's festival sold just 67,000 tickets, less than half what organizers anticipated.

Quart 2009 took place June 30-July 4 and featured former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash as the headliner. Slash was reportedly paid 10 million Norwegian kroner (approximately $1.65 million) for his headlining appearance at this year's event where he was joined by the following "special guests":

Ron Wood (THE ROLLING STONES)
Ozzy Osbourne (BLACK SABBATH)
Fergie (a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson of BLACK EYED PEAS)

Slash's band consisted of the following musicians:

Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN) - Drums
Chris Chaney (JANE'S ADDICTION) - Bass
John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON) - Guitar
Franky Perez (SCARS ON BROADWAY) - Guitar
Teddy Andreadis (GUNS N' ROSES, ALICE COOPER) - Piano/Harmonica

A detailed review of the concert, which includes high-quality pictures from Ross Halfin, can be found on the Classic Rock web site.
