OPETH: Audio Interview Available
July 4, 2008Mikael Åkerfeldt (vocals, guitar) and Fredrik Åkesson (guitar) of the Swedish progressive metal band OPETH were recently interviewed by "Whiplash", a weekly metal show on Belgian national radio Studio Brussel, hosted by AFTER ALL guitarist Dries Van Damme. OPETH was recently forced to cancel its appearances at the Peace & Love (Borlänge, Sweden on June 26),Hovefestivalen (Norway on June 27),Metaltown (Gothenborg, Sweden on June 28),and Graspop Metal Meeting (Dessel, Belgium on June 29) festivals after Mikael Åkerfeldt contracted varicella (chicken pox).
"Watershed", the new album from OPETH, sold more than 19,000 copies of in the United States in its first week of release.
"Watershed" is the follow-up to the band's acclaimed "Ghost Reveries" CD, which debuted at No. 64 on the Billboard chart back in September 2005 with first-week sales of just under 15,000. OPETH's 2003 album, "Damnation", opened with a little over 5,000 copies.
"Ghost Reveries" has sold more than 95,000 copes in the United States since its 2005 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
