OPETH Withdraw From Finnish Festivals
July 4, 2003Sweden's OPETH have been forced to cancel their previously announced appearances at Finland's Tuska and Illosaarirock festivals, scheduled to take place July 11 and July 12, respectively.
The following is an official statement on the matter from OPETH's manager, Andy Farrow of Northern Music Co.:
"It is with regret that OPETH will have to withdraw from performing at the above two festivals. The reason for this is that with the bands schedule of touring and promoting two albums at once, 'Deliverance' and 'Damnation', has meant that there hasn't been enough time for the band to probably rehearse for their upcoming 'Damnation' U.S. tour, which begins in Canada on 15th July. This set involves the implementation of a keyboard player who due to other band commitments is only available on certain times.
"This fact, coupled with the fact that the band would have to fly directly to the U.S. from Finland with 2 sets of instruments — one for the 'Deliverance' set and one for the 'Damnation' set — would mean huge excess baggage charges on the flight and thereby making it logistically and financially impossible.
"Sincere apologies, Andy Farrow"
