OZZY OSBOURNE Fan Site Shuts Down For Family, Religious Reasons
January 5, 2007Popular OZZY OSBOURNE fan site Ozzyhead.com has officially shut down after 11 years. The site's founder and webmaster, Mitch Van Beekum, has issued the following "goodbye" message explaining his decision to discontinue the site:
"In 1995 I decided to start up a small fan website on CompuServe devoted to Ozzy Osbourne. Some of you old-timers out there will remember my dinky little website with a few pictures on it, and not much else. I literally had 5mb of space to upload pictures and news articles. Later on I moved over to AOL where I joined 2 accounts together and created 20mb of space for myself. Wow, how times change. In December 2006, my server was hosting over 4 gigs (that's 4000mb) and averaging between 35,000 and 60,000 unique hits a month. Not too shabby!
"Over the past 12 years, I have made a lot of friends around the world. My website enabled me to meet Ozzy numerous times, and obtain backstage passes through the great people in Sharon Osbourne's office (John, Mike... you know who you are!). I've been in touch with the great musicians who have played with Ozzy, and those who have toured with him. My site has been mentioned on radio programs, and in magazines and books. There's really not much else I could have asked for.
"But now, the time has come for me to move on. My family life and my religious beliefs far out-weigh the importance of maintaining this website any longer. I've realized that I will have to stand before the Lord one day, and I want my name written down in the 'Book of Life.' Some of you out there might think I've gone off the deep end... but I am now at peace with myself. (If you are interested in reading more about Jesus, click here.)
"I would like to thank you, and all of the loyal visitors around the globe who helped me make my site what it was.
"If you have any comments, or just want to say goodbye, feel free to send me an e-mail: [email protected]."
"God Bless You All."
