PANTERA Side Project And Special Guests Get Fired Up On New Year's Eve!
January 3, 2002PANTERA bassist Rex Brown, ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell, DROWNING POOL frontman Dave Williams and SEVENDUST vocalist Lajon Witherspoon joined GASOLINE—the metallic southern rock side project of PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul—for a cover of PANTERA's “Walk” at GASOLINE's performance at Dallas' Bronco Bowl on December 31st. According to fans that attended the group's gig at The Tattoo Bar in Fort Worth, Texas on December 30th, GASOLINE's set list included renditions of METALLICA's “Seek And Destroy” (with Darrell on lead vocals),QUIET RIOT's “Bang Your Head”, TED NUGENT's “Cat Scratch Fever”, as well as a track by W.A.S.P. The crowd was also treated to the opening riffs of BLACK SABBATH's “Symptom Of The Universe” and SLAYER's “Raining Blood”, in addition to covers of THIN LIZZY and PAT TRAVERS, among others. Also appearing at Bronco Bowl gig was the aforementioned Cantrell, who reportedly joined DROWNING POOL for versions of ALICE IN CHAINS' “Got Me Wrong” and “Rooster”. Another of the night's performers, UNION UNDERGROUND, played their own cover of the ALICE IN CHAINS track “Would?” as a “tribute” to the guitarist, whose reaction to the impromptu performance was not immediately known.
