PAPA ROACH, ONE MINUTE SILENCE Speak Out On Iraq Conflict
October 18, 2002PAPA ROACH, ONE MINUTE SILENCE and FUGAZI are among the bands who have voiced their opposition to the possibility of the UK and US waging war on Iraq.
Speaking to Kerrang.com, PAPA ROACH vocalist Jacoby Shaddix said: "I am not a supporter of the war. I don't believe in war in general. My father went to war, my father went to Vietnam and that was a big reason why my family is fucked up!"
ONE MINUTE SILENCE vocalist Brian "Yap" Barry also voiced his concerns to Kerrang.com.
"There's been so much media emphasis on the affair between John Major and Edwina Currie in recent weeks and it's just a smokescreen to detract from the real issues," the singer raged. "The lack of debate on this slide into war is frightening. It's unbelievable to me that anyone can think that murdering thousands of innocent people in Iraq is going to help the country."
"People say they're sick of our band going on about politics," he added, "but I'm sick of having our views marginalized. The US is prepared to destroy civilization in the name of civilization and that's truly offensive to me. In the big scheme of things, fuck what anyone thinks about ONE MINUTE SILENCE while innocent men, woman and children are being killed in our name."
