PAUL RODGERS Sheds Light On AEROSMITH Offer

According to The Pulse of Radio, Paul Rodgers shed some light on his run-in last year with guitarist Joe Perry, in which Perry threw out an offer for Rodgers to replace Steven Tyler in AEROSMITH. Rodgers politely refused the offer, but does have plans to do some studio work with Perry later this year. The Pulse of Radio asked Rodgers if under any circumstances he would ever reconsider the offer to front AEROSMITH. "I think not, y'know, really. I've never really joined a band other than joining forces with QUEEN during which we were playing my songs and their songs. And I did speak to Joe at the awards ceremony in London. Y'know, he discussed some of the problems and we talked about music. I mean, the upshot is that he's gonna be bringing his solo band in support of the BAD COMPANY tour in the U.K. I have enormous respect for all those guys and I really hope that they iron out their problems and AEROSMITH sticks together because they're such a great band."

Rodgers is currently doing some touring as a solo artist.

Classic Rock magazine reported recently that Perry had also approached Chris Cornell and Billy Idol about singing with the band, while representatives for Sammy Hagar denied that he had been offered the gig.

The rest of AEROSMITH fell out with Tyler last fall after a canceled tour and Tyler's stated intention to work for two years on a solo project. Tyler subsequently entered rehab for an addiction to painkillers.

Both sides maintain that Tyler has not officially left AEROSMITH, and his management and attorneys threatened legal action if the band went forward with finding a new singer for touring purposes.

Meanwhile, England's Download Festival announced that AEROSMITH, with Tyler on vocals, will perform at the event, set for June 11-13. The festival apparently stipulated that it would not take AEROSMITH without Tyler on vocals. A statement from the frontman said, "In the early days of AEROSMITH, we were infected with the vibe coming out of the U.K. . . . So baby, we're coming home. Rock and roll can be pure sex and we can't wait to Download . . ."
